BronzeLens Gives Out $1M to HBCU’s Thanks to Contribution from Tyler Perry + Special Guest Revealed

BRONZELEN'S FILM FESTIVAL BRINGS SPECIAL GUEST AND PLEDGE TO HBCU'S ​

BronzeLens Film Festival is delighted to host Oprah Winfrey for its Women’s Superstar Luncheon and contribute to the funding of students majoring in film and TV production

Atlanta, Georgia— August 18, 2021— The Atlanta-based BronzeLens Film Festival and the 11th annual Women's Superstar Luncheon will be held virtually this year to encourage and showcase the work of people of color in film. This year's event will take place beginning Tuesday, August 17, 2021, and will conclude on Sunday, August 22, 2021. BronzeLens recognizes the seriousness and severity caused by COVID-19 and has therefore decided to move this year’s annual festival to a virtual experience. This year BronzeLens is honored enough to have chosen Oprah Winfrey, an American talk show host, TV producer, and philanthropist, as our event's guest star. Winfrey's participation in the series, according to BronzeLens,” Will provide our female viewers with the same awareness and experience as our live event”. Winfrey is the first African-American woman to own her own production company and owns The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. BronzeLens hopes to utilize her experiences to help other young women and women of color.

The Atlanta, Georgia-based BronzeLens Film Festival is a non-profit organization committed to supporting Atlanta as a film mecca for people of color, exhibiting films made by people of color, and offering networking opportunities for the next generation of filmmakers. It was established in 2009 by the President of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, William Pete.

As in previous years, The BronzeLens Film Festival is committed to giving back to the community. Thanks to a generous donation from actor, producer, and director Tyler Perry, BronzeLens will also be awarding $1 million in grants to students majoring in TV and film production at Clark Atlanta University, Howard University, and Florida A&M University. “We hope that this will be an amazing contribution and start to solidify the success within film and TV students at HBCU’s,” said Chantal Artur, Tyler Perry’s publicist.

“When it comes to film, we don't see many African-Americans behind the camera, let alone those who have graduated from HBCUs,” commented Tyler Perry. “I hope that this generous gift encourages others to support our institutions as well.”
